The tourist activities in different rural areas, can suppose, significant improvements in the quality of life of the inhabitants, by means of the generation of extra economic income; adaptations of basic infrastructures, that is, support service for the attention of tourists, visitors and national or foreign hikers and, lastly, the preservation of the environment; considered the main reason why the tourist moves. This study through participatory research intends to analyze community tourism, as a factor of sustainable local development in rural areas; it is intended to carry out an inventory of tourist resources and to know the perception of the population regarding the development of tourist activities within a rural region; They will be evaluated through the focus group technique. It was possible to verify the null knowledge that the inhabitants possess in the matter of tourist activities; but it is noticeable the high value they feel for their daily activities and their lands, in important declare the interest shown by training in tourism issues. It was concluded that this study can be replicable to other rural regions and recommend the creation tourism clusters
