The objective of the article is to present the progress of the contribution of Panama in relation to the Information and knowledge society, as a mechanism to decreasing the digital gap, with the use of information and communication Technologies. This article reviews the project "Digital Archives of prominent personalities of our nationality" carried out by the National Library of Panama, which began in 2004, in which topics related to the generation of content, the preservation of documents of historical relevance and the digitization of more than 100,000 images and 6,000 records. Through the bibliographic review of several authors who present their vision regarding the impact of Information and communication technologies in society, we analyze the significant content that this project has in society that initiates the commitment of the country in which the strategies that encourage the development of digital content for the consumption of information by the community and, in the near future, the possible creation of knowledge. The statistics of use of these Digital Files show the large scale increase in the use of these tools in the last two years (2015-2017), which shows us the effectiveness of the project that the information reaches any person with access to Internet.
