Abstract

In Panama, historically, access to water and sanitation has played an important role in the development, economic growth, quality of life and health of its population. The main objective of this work is to demonstrate the importance of coverage with water for human consumption in the communities of Santa Cruz, Río Congo and El Arado of the District of La Chorrera. As methodology a survey was applied through field visits to the communities of Santa Cruz, Río Congo and El Arado once a week for 3 months, taking a random sample of 10% of the population. The results showed that 83% of the total respondents have water supply from wells, 23% of the population without access to drinking water at home. It is concluded that there is still a large percentage of the inhabitants of these three communities that do not have access to drinking water.
