Abstract

Triage within an emergency and emergency service in a tertiary care facility becomes a fundamental tool for nurse decision-making. Knowing the importance of it, we ask ourselves, is the nurse being assertive when classifying the patient in the triage area of the emergency service of Santo Tomas Hospital, taking into account the medical diagnostic impression?

This work seeks to know if nurses are being assertive or not when classifying the patient in the triage area and its relationship with the medical diagnostic impression. For this, an applied content analysis research was carried out, it was divided into 3 stages: 1- the problem analysis was carried out, 2- the variables classification of patients according to priority level and 3- operationalization process of the project were analyzed. These data were obtained from the clinical records of the patients treated in the month of July 2019, a total of 300 clinical cases were analyzed, where it was observed that 72.3% of the clinical cases were classified assertively and 27.7% non-assertively. by the nurse taking into consideration the reason for consultation and the assessment of vital signs.

It is concluded that a large percentage of patients are affirmative at the time of carrying out the triage; however, there is a need to generate new lines of research linked to practice.
