Abstract

The school nurse is not a novel figure, it has more than 100 years of history, since it is established in European countries such as the United Kingdom, France, Scotland and Sweden, as well as in the United States, being confirmed by various studies, the effectiveness of its functions, in which the care function and health education stand out in particular.

Objective: To analyze the role of the school nurse, identifying its meaning and essence, thus demonstrating its role in the health education of young people.

Methodology: It was based on a qualitative study based on the descriptive phenomenology of Husserl (1982) and the interpretive phenomenology of Heidegger (1962). The analysis technique of Moustakas (1994) was used with modification of Gordon de Isaacs (2017).

Results: they allowed to identify nine (9) central themes, supported by the units of meanings, of which the textural and structural descriptions were made, which finally reached the integrated description (textural-structural).

Conclusion: The presence of the school nurse in the educational centers could solve the problem that is currently being experienced in the schools, since by establishing a reference nurse in each educational center, it is an added value due to the knowledge and experience health professional; promoting healthy lifestyles.
